"Anyone who stops learning is old, whether at twenty or eighty." Henry Ford
As an organization committed to learning and to seeing the results learning can produce, we value finding and sharing articles, resources and insights that are relevant to today's managers. Below is a modest start. Our intent is to continue to develop this section of our web site, and we would welcome your recommendations.
Articles & Book Summaries
Abilene Paradox: Management By Agreement; Dr. Jerry Harvey. The fundamental problem of contemporary organizations, broadly defined to include families, churches, governments, businesses and academic institutions, is the inability to cope with the fact that we agree with one another. The problem is not the inability to cope with conflict. In fact, most conflict in organizations of all kinds is phony, and is unconsciously generated in an effort to keep us from having to do anything significant. After making the above statement, Harvey recounts the origin of the Abilene Paradox. AbileneParadoxSummary.pdf
The Five Dysfunctions of a Team: A Leadership Fable; Patrick M. Lencioni. In his book, Lencioni examines why effective teams are so rare, and he provides specific recommendations for eliminating barriers that lead to dysfunctional teams. The attached document summarizes Lencioni's work in a diagram that outlines the causes of team dysfunctionality and what can be done to overcome each one. FiveDysfunctions.pdf
